USDA & FDA
APPROVED

The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) was first formed in 1862 and since then, it has provided leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development and nutrition. The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) was formed in 1906 – its responsibility to protect and promote US public health through the control and supervision of a wide variety of areas including food safety.

BOTH AGENCIES HAVE APPROVED OZONE

Ozone has been given GRAS (Generally Approved as Safe) approval by the USDA and the FDA for direct contact with food products, including all meat and poultry products.

While good manufacturing procedures must be in place, no regulations exist on levels of ozone in food processing applications. The final rule from the FDA providing GRAS approval was given in 2001, the USDA followed with the final rule granting GRAS approval for ozone in 2002.
